This year’s recipient, Alex Ward, has built a career centered on collaboration, communication and continuous growth. In this interview, Alex reflects on the experiences that shaped his leadership style, the lessons he has carried throughout his career and the values that continue to guide the way he approaches relationships within the industry and beyond.
What does receiving this award mean to you at this stage of your career?
Receiving this award at this stage in my career means a lot to me. This was my first year of eligibility, and to be nominated was a true honour—but to win it is absolutely incredible! REALTOR® of the Year is the highest award available within our board, and to now be amongst the previous winners is humbling.
Was there a specific moment, challenge, or milestone that shaped your journey as a REALTOR®?
Covid was one the largest challenges that shaped my journey as a REALTOR®. I learned extremely quickly just how much my leadership would impact those around me. Learning the true importance of clear and concise communication has helped shaped me ever since.
What values or principles guide the way you approach your work and relationships in the industry?
I am guided by the principles of giving back, honesty, transparency and professionalism. Collaboration is a key driver within our industry, and building each other up—regardless of brand—is how we improve the standards within our industry
Who has had the biggest impact on your professional growth, and what did you learn from them?
There hasn’t been a single person that’s had the biggest impact on my professional growth. Instead, it’s been a long list of individuals that I’ve been able to take nuggets of wisdom from. By seeing their best practices firsthand, I’ve been able to apply many of those lessons to my own business and daily approach.
What advice would you give to other REALTORS® who aspire to make a meaningful impact in the industry or community?
Everyone has the ability to make a meaningful impact in the industry and certainly within their community. As REALTORS®, we touch so many people’s lives and are part of some the most emotional moments they’ll ever experience! Cherish this! Be the change you want to see in the world.
