In January 2025, the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton (RAE) issued a letter to the Government of Alberta with five budget recommendations to consider for the 2025 budget. We are pleased to see that at least three out of five recommendations are reflected in Alberta’s Budget 2025 announcement on February 27, 2025.
Advocacy is key to building collaborative relationships in the RAE’s member communities. The RAE’s budget recommendations are consistent with the Association’s mission and strategic focus to advance professionalism in the real estate industry and ensure REALTORS® and the interests of RAE members are represented in emerging policies from all levels of government.
The RAE’s advocacy efforts are bolstered through partnerships with the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA), the Alberta Real Estate Association (AREA), other industry partners and the work of the RAE Government & Political Action (GovPAC) Committee. The recommendations in the RAE’s budget submission align with GovPAC’s priority of increasing and diversifying housing across the housing spectrum and CREA’s goal of helping innovative housing technology reach economies of scale.
The Association also noted that Budget 2025 addresses concerns expressed in other policy letters, including the RAE’s recommendation of full reinstatement of Grants in Place of Taxes (GIPOT). The successful implementation of this recommendation will alleviate pressure on municipal finances, potentially resulting in lowered property taxes for all Alberta homeowners.
The RAE remains committed to representing the interests of our members and ensuring policy changes are in the best interests of the communities we serve. If you have questions or suggestions related to RAE advocacy, please reach out to raegr@therae.com.
